Anthropic, the company behind Claude, files to go public on Nasdaq

On 26 October Anthropic filed a Form S-1 with the US SEC for an initial public offering. It plans to list on Nasdaq under the ticker ANT. The share count and price have not been set.

Anthropic, PBC, the developer of the Claude model family, announced on its website that it has filed a registration statement on Form S-1 with the Securities and Exchange Commission. It proposes to offer Class A common stock in an initial public offering, to be listed on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker ANT. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are named for prospectus requests.

This is only the first step. The registration statement has been filed but is not yet effective, so the number of shares and the price range are still undetermined. The announcement on Anthropic's site contains no financial figures and no risk discussion. Those will be in the full S-1 at the SEC, which we had not read at the time of writing, so we deliberately leave out second-hand numbers.

For companies that use Claude or are considering it, the relevant change is transparency. A listed company has to publish its results, risks and security incidents on a regular schedule. A supplier on which a firm builds customer support or internal agents becomes easier for auditors and compliance teams to assess than before.

It also signals that the market for business AI models is maturing. Model providers, whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or Copilot, will increasingly be judged like any other software vendor: on price, availability and service stability. Saying that a listing will change prices or customer terms would be speculation, and Anthropic has announced nothing of the kind.

What it means for companies

If you use Claude at work, nothing changes today: the service runs as before and contracts stay in force. It is still a good moment to check how dependent your process is on a single model vendor. A well-designed AI agent lets you swap the model, so a change in price or terms does not stop operations. Our ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini for business service helps you choose and compare vendors, and the article ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot for your company gives a broader comparison. To assess supplier risk and design a vendor-independent architecture, start with short AI consulting.
