Moderna co-founder calls for urgent regulation of AI agents
Noubar Afeyan, co-founder of Moderna, called for urgent regulation of AI agents, Bloomberg reports. In his view, safety should be demonstrated before agents reach the market.
Afeyan compared the situation to pharmaceuticals, where a new drug has to be tested before patients receive it. For AI agents that act on behalf of people and companies, he argues, comparable checks are still missing.
The call comes as large technology companies launch agents that work across email, documents and company systems. In Europe, part of the rules already apply through the AI Act.
What it means for companies
In the EU, regulation is not only a future topic: the AI Act already sets obligations, such as AI literacy for staff. That is why every project of ours starts with a risk classification and clear rules on what the agent may do alone.
